COLLEGE PARK, Md. - In addition to their successes on the field and in the athletic arena, Maryland student-athletes worked diligently in the classroom this past fall semester as their accomplishments attest.

Two hundred and thirty-one (231) student-athletes were named to the Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll after earning a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher. Additionally, 23 student-athletes earned their degrees while graduating at the conclusion of the fall semester. 

“Our mission is to help student-athletes build a foundation for a successful future and that begins in the classroom,” director of athletics Kevin Anderson said. “Our student-athletes are tremendously committed to excellence both in the class room and on the playing surface, and are proud representatives of the University of Maryland.” 

Eighty-one (81) student-athletes earned a semester 3.50 or higher while being named to their respective College Dean's Lists.  In its inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference, Maryland placed 64 student-athletes on the fall sport Academic All-Big Ten Team where the football, women's cross country and soccer teams leading the way with 21, 15, and 14 student-athletes respectively.     

Six Maryland student-athletes were also recognized as recipients of the prestigious 1A Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Academic Excellence Award for outstanding academic achievement. The award was created to honor those high achieving graduates who participated in at least two years of intercollegiate athletics while maintaining a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.80 upon graduation. Honorees included: Ben Brewster, Kyle Convissar (baseball), Sean O'Leary (men's track & field), Kayla Clark (women's soccer), Elizabeth Manzi (gymnastics) and Rebecca Yep (women's cross country).
