COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Four members of the Maryland field hockey team competed with the U.S. Under-21 Team in a four-game series in Holland earlier this month. Anna Dessoye, Linnea Gonzalez, Alyssa Parker and Moira Putsch all made the trip to Europe to play.
The series was a valuable learning experience for the young Americans as they prepare for the Junior World Cup in 2016.
"It was an awesome experience going to Holland," Dessoye said. "The culture in Holland is incredible because hockey is everywhere."
While in Holland, the Terrapins found time to catch up with some Maryland field hockey alums, including Maxine Fluharty, who is playing for the Dutch professional team, H.C. Bloemendaal.
They also got a chance to visit with Janneke van Leeuwen, who was a member of the Terps' 2005 and 2006 NCAA championship teams and an NFHCA All-American, who is now becoming a doctor in her home country.
Former Terrapin Megan Frazer is preparing for a World Cup Qualifier with the Irish National Team. Frazer joined a radio show in Dublin to talk the qualifier.
Frazer led her team to a 5-0 win over the Ukraine Saturday. Read about her play here.
Frazer met the president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins, recently.
