COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland volleyball team celebrated its inaugural season in the Big Ten and its alumni at the team's annual banquet last Saturday night at the Marriott Inn & Conference Center.
“It was a wonderful weekend for our program,” said head coach Steve Aird. “It was great to have former players, families and friends to campus for an alumni match and banquet. There was a great deal of pride on display and we are all excited about the future. I hope that former players and friends of the program continue to reconnect and we can grow this thing together.”
For the first time, former Terrapins gathered at XFINITY Center in the afternoon as alumni played matches against themselves and current players. More than 120 former players and guests joined the current team and coaching staff at the evening's banquet at the Marriott.
The coaching staff honored seniors Catie Coyle, Ashleigh Crutcher, Kaitlyn King and Nicola Ribisi at the banquet.
The Terps joined the Big Ten last summer and entered the premier volleyball conference in the nation. Maryland played its most difficult schedule in history as the Terrapins played 12 matches against top-25 opponents.
