Each week during the 2014-15 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is senior women's golfer Juliet Vongphoumy.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland senior Juliet Vongphoumy has made a big impact as the Terps have completed a successful transition to the Big Ten Conference this season.
Vongphoumy won the Mary Fossum Award as the conference player with the lowest stroke average relative to par this season and she tied for second at the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship last weekend at the Fort Golf Resort in Indianapolis.
“I'm very proud of Juliet and her performance the whole season,” head coach Diana Cantu said. “She was very consistent all year and finished strong. Even though I coached her for only a year, she has made a big impact on my life and my development as a coach. It has been a huge honor helping her and watching her succeed on-and-off the course this year.”
The Providence, R.I., native, qualified for the NCAA Women's Golf Regionals, which will take place in Raleigh, N.C., from May 7-9. The Providence, R.I., native, was also awarded the conference's sportsmanship award as a tremendous leader both on and off the course for the Terrapins.
Vongphoumy was a two-time All-ACC honoree (2012, 2014) prior to landing All-Big Ten honors this season. She is the first Terp to qualify for the postseason since Maryland punched its ticket to the NCAA Regionals as a team in 2012.
