RALEIGH, N.C. - Juliet Vongphoumy finished her illustrious Terrapin career with a 22nd-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Women's Golf Raleigh Regionals Saturday at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the campus of NC State.
After posting back-to-back scores of 73 in the first and second rounds, Vongphoumy racked up a 78 on Saturday to fall 12 spots on the final day of competition.
“Juliet played really well the first two rounds but unfortunately had a couple of bad breaks today and couldn't capitalize when she needed to,” head coach Diana Cantu said. “She didn't have the round she was hoping for today and that's a shame, but this week leaves Juliet lessons learned for her career after college.
“I'm very proud of Juliet's performance this season. We focused on enjoying the week and sticking to our process and what we could control. Coach Simpson and I are excited to see what unfolds for her in the future. It was a pleasure and an honor being Juliet's coach during her senior year. She will be missed but she will certainly leave a lasting footprint with her achievements and tremendous work ethic.”
Vongphoumy – arguably one of the top female golfers in Maryland history - won the Mary Fossum Award as the conference player with the lowest stroke average relative to par this season and she tied for second at the Big Ten Women's Golf Championship at the Fort Golf Resort in Indianapolis. She was also tagged a First Team All-Big Ten selection and won the league's sportsmanship award.
