Assistant AD-Football Communications

The Assistant Director-Football Communications will be responsible for serving as the key media relations contact for the University of Maryland Football program. This team player will coordinate publications for the program, including writing, compiling and editing media guides, with a specific focus on accuracy and timeliness; prepare game notes and press releases to ensure effective coverage and proper NCAA and Conference reporting; maintain and update athletic department web site; respond to and manage media requests, interviews, news conferences and photo sessions; provide event coverage and game-day management functions and work closely with the University's marketing office to effectively promote the football program and athletic department nationally. In addition the Assistant AD-Football Communications will include serving as the liaison to the Big Ten Network for The Journey, live shots and all requests pertaining to the Head Football Coach and the Maryland Football program; coordinate publicity efforts surrounding the fundraising and building of the practice facility; oversee the social media platforms for the football program and collaborate on the social media efforts for the athletic department; assist with publicity efforts for athlete business initiatives and community events and work with the Shirley Povich School of Journalism to increase opportunities for student journalists surrounding the move into the Big Ten and integration with the Big Ten Network; and in addition, the Assistant AD-Football Communications will be the primary media relations contact for several other sports as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Must have 3-5 years of athletics media relations experience at the collegiate or professional level. Must have demonstrated outstanding proficiency in desktop publishing software, Adobe PhotoShop, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer on either Macintosh or Windows platforms or both. Familiarity with Stat Crew Systems software required. Master degree preferred, ideally in journalism, athletics administration, public relations or similar fields.
