COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Former Maryland field hockey attackers Katie O'Donnell and Jill Witmer will head to Toronto this week to compete in the Pan American Games with the U.S. Women's National Team.
Team USA will compete in the eight-nation tournament and is in Group B, along with Chile, Uruguay and Cuba. Argentina, Canada, Mexico and the Dominican Republic make up Group A. The winning team of the tournament will earn a bid to the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero.
First, the U.S. will play Uruguay at 11 a.m. ET on Monday, July 13, then will take on Chile at 9 a.m. ET on Wednesday, July 15. Team USA will face off against Cuba at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, July 17. Quarterfinals will be played on Monday, July 20, semifinals on Wednesday, July 22 and the finals on Friday, July 24.
The U.S. finished fifth in the Hockey World League Semifinals in Valencia, Spain last month.
"We didn't quite get the results at the World League we were after, but we're fortunate enough to get our second chance to qualify at the Pan American games," O'Donnell said. "Who knows what will happen but I can assure you we have learned from our previous tournament and we are ready to take the pitch full steam ahead."
