Terps Open Season with Maryland Invite

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team opens the 2015 season with the Maryland Invite Friday and Saturday in the XFINITY Center Pavilion.

• The Terps hose Duquesne, Kent State, Hofstra and Morgan State in the invitational. This is Maryland's first home nonconference tournament under head coach Steve Aird.

• Maryland is 27-17 (.614) all-time in season-openers, and is currently on a three-match win streak in such matches.

• Parking lot 4b will be open for fans on both Friday and Saturday for all matches.

• Live stats will be available for each match, and updates will be given on the Maryland volleyball Twitter feed.

Ticket Information

• Season tickets for Maryland volleyball matches are available online by clicking here. Tickets for nine women's and 12 men's matches are just $40 for adults and $25 for youth (3-17) or seniors (62+).

• Single game tickets for Maryland volleyball matches are also available online by clicking here. Tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for youth or seniors. General admission groups (15+) can purchase tickets for $3. Tickets are also available at the door one hour prior to kickoff on a limited basis.

Click here to purchase the Maryland Athletics Pride Pass and receive admission to the following sports: Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer, Volleyball, Wrestling, Men's Lacrosse, Women's Lacrosse, and Baseball. Pass is valid for regular season contests for the 2014 - 2015 athletic season. The Maryland Pride Pass is available for a single admission for $99 and for the pass holder and a guest for $150.

Scouting the Duquesne dukes

• Duquesne finished 2014 with a 16-12 overall record and a 9-5 Atlantic 10 record.

• The Dukes return middle hitter Lacey Levers, who was second on the team with 2.45 kills per set in 2014. The team returns four starters from last season.

• The Terps compete against Duquesne for the first time in program history at the Maryland Invite.

Scouting the kent state golden flashes

• Kent State returns five starters and its libero from last year's team. The program recorded a 17-14 record in 2014.

• The Golden Flashes return libero Challen Geraghty, who earned MAC All-Freshman team honors and recorded the third-most digs in program history.

• The Terps are 2-0 all-time against Kent State with the last meeting coming in 1981.

Scouting the hofstra pride

• Hofstra won the CAA Championship after posting a 28-6 record under first-year head coach Emily Mansur in 2014.

• The Pride return 2014 CAA Setter of the Year Hannah Klemm. Junior middle blocker Veronika Kostova is the top returning hitter with 273 kills in 2014.

• Maryland is 8-4 all-time against Hofstra, with the last meeting coming on Aug. 31, 1996.

Scouting the morgan state lady bears

• Morgan State was picked to finish fourth in the MEAC North Division. The Lady Bears return four starters from 2014 when the team went 13-13 and welcome six newcomers.

• Right side hitter Arianna Hayden returns to Morgan State after earning Third Team All-MEAC honors in 2014. Three of the Lady Bears' top four kills leaders return to the team this season.

• The Terps are 4-0 all-time against Morgan State with the last meeting coming in 2009.

second season under steve aird

• The Terps continue their journey in the Big Ten under second-year head coach Steve Aird.

• A two-time NCAA champion with Penn State, Aird led Maryland to a 6-0 start in his first season, the program's best since 2005.

• Aird and his staff were instrumental in increasing community support for the Terps as the team set four attendance records in 2014.

Terps' BTN Schedule Released

• Maryland will have at least 15 of its conference matches featured on Big Ten Network platforms in 2015.

• The Terps open the conference slate on the Big Ten Network as Maryland hosts Illinois on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

• Maryland will be featured on BTN Plus, the network's subscription-based platform, in 14 conference appearances.

dion, fraik named team captains

• Seniors Amy Dion and Emily Fraik were announced as the 2015 team captains.

• A three-year starter at libero, Dion led the team in digs in 2014. She serves as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president.

• An important contributor since her freshman season at outside hitter, Fraik was second on the team in kills last season. Off the court, she holds a 4.0 GPA as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major.

murray competes with big ten's best

• Sophomore middle blocker Hailey Murray traveled to Slovenia, Croatia and Italy as a member of the first-ever Big Ten Foreign Tour team in June.

• Alongside student-athletes from the other 13 conference programs, Murray played seven matches overseason, including five against national teams.

• Murray will be an important contributor to the Terps in 2015 as she led the team in blocks last season as just a freshman.

elliott returns to the terps

• Redshirt senior Adreené Elliott returns to Maryland after the outside hitter suffered a season-ending injury just seven matches into the 2014 season.

• Elliott was named All-ACC Third Team in 20143 and ACC All-Freshman team in 2011.

• In the summer of 2014, Elliott was selected to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program in Minneapolis. The Winston Salem, N.C., native is just eight kills away from reaching 1,000 for her career.

tough road ahead

• In their second season in the Big Ten, the Terps once again have a challenging slate.

• Maryland will play 16 matches against 12 teams that were ranked or received votes in the preseason AVCA Coaches Poll.

• Nine of the Terrapins' conference foes eaerned spots in the poll, including No. 1 Penn State, T-No. 5 Nebraska and Wisconsin and No. 8 Illinois.

aird announces 2015 signing class

• Head coach Steve Aird welcomed four freshman for the 2015 season.

• The 2015 signing class features setter Abby Bentz, opposite hitter Angel Gaskin, outside hitter Liz Twilley and defensive specialist/libero Kelsey Wicinski.

• Bentz was named a 2015 PrepVolleyball Academic All-American while Twilley was the 2014 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. Wicinski was a three-time defensive player of the year selection and Gaskin was an all-conference performer.
