COLLEGE PARK, Md. Former Maryland standouts Kevin Glover and Tom McMillen were inducted as members of the 56th class to the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame Thursday, November 12.. Additionally, longtime Maryland sports information director Jack Zane was awarded the John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievement Award, alongside Ed Hale.

Joining the Terrapin legends in the hall of fame class were Brooks Robinson, the late John Mackey, Bernard Williams and Del Dresser.

A center on the Maryland football team's offensive line from 1982-84, Glover was a Sporting News First Team All-American before being selected in the second round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and four-time All-Pro selection during his prestigious career. Glover currently serves as the Executive Director of the M Club at the University of Maryland.

“I am very humbled and honored to be among an outstanding and distinguished group of Terp Legends in the Maryland State Hall of Fame,” Glover said. “This is a reflection of the tremendous support that I received as a student athlete at Largo H.S. and the University of Maryland. I would like to give special thanks to my wife Cestaine, my parents, Robert and Marvoneen Glover, Coach Bobby Ross, Coach Rocco Romeo, Coach Ralph Friedgen, the Detroit Lions and a long list of special friends, relatives and teammates.”

McMillen starred on Maryland's basketball team from 1970-74, where he was a three-time all-american and academic all-american in addition to earning the prestigious Rhode's Scholarship. A member of the 1972 U.S. Olympic basketball team, McMillen went on to play 11 seasons in the NBA for the Buffalo Braves, New York Knicks, Atlanta Hawks and Washington Bullets.

Following his professional career, McMillen was elected to the U.S. Congress to represent Maryland's 4th district, which he served from 1987-1993.

“My experiences at Maryland are something that I will never forget," McMillen said. "It is truly an honor to be inducted alongside so many incredible people who had an impact on athletics in the state of Maryland."

Zane served in the University of Maryland athletic department for more than 40 years, including 19 years as the school's sports information director from 1969-1988. An iconic publicist for Maryland and protégé of the late joe f. blair, Zane was well-respected by media and the local community for his contributions to Terrapin athletics.

“The selection to the Maryland State Hall of Fame and to represent the University of Maryland means a great deal to me,” Zane said. “It shows what we were able to accomplish at the University of Maryland and that the individuals we were able to assist were appreciative of our commitment to the athletics department.”

The Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame began in 1956 as baseball immortals Babe Ruth and Jimmy Foxx headlined the inaugural ceremony. Native Marylanders only were initially enshrined, but in recent years, those who starred for local pro teams and stayed in Maryland contributing to their communities, became eligible as Adopted Marylanders.
