Terps Travel to Kristen Dickmann Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team travels to Navy for the Kristen Dickmann Invitational Friday and Saturday.

• The Terps face Texas Tech at 4:30 p.m. Friday before taking on George Washington Saturday at 11 a.m. Maryland closes the invite against Navy at 4 p.m.

• Live stats will be available for each match, and updates will be given on the Maryland volleyball Twitter feed. The Terps' match against Navy will be streamed on the Patriot League Network.

Ticket/parking info

• Admission to Navy volleyball matches is free. All matches this weekend will be played at the Wesley A. Brown Field House.

• Vehicle access to the Naval Academy is restricted to those with Department of Defense identification. Fans can park downtown and walk onto the academy grounds, but it's recommended to park near the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium ($5 per vehicle) and take a free shuttle to the field house. • All visitors to the Naval Academy over the age of 16 must present a government-issued form of identification (ex. drivers license) to gain access.

Terps win dc classic, move to 8-0

• Maryland won four matches over Penn, Howard, Western Carolina and George Mason last weekend to win the DC Classic.

• The Terps are 8-0 on the season, the team's best start since 2005. Maryland is one of 20 undefeated teams remaining in Division I.

• Freshman Liz Twilley and junior Ashlyn MacGregor were named to the all-tournament team while Twilley was named the Classic's MVP. Twilley posted 45 kills in four matches while MacGregor notched 25 kills and 21 blocks.

Scouting the navy midshipmen

• The Mids are 2-5 on the season after dropping a four-set match to Air Force on Wednesday.

• Navy's Olivia Kluger paces the team with 47 kills (1.96/set). Rachel Fortner (3.62 assists/set) and Patricia Mattingly (4.42 assists/set) have split setting duty this season. Through seven matches, no Mid has posted more than seven blocks.

• The Terps are 8-1 all-time against Navy with the last meeting coming in 2009.

Scouting the george washington colonials

• The Colonials moved to 4-3 on the season after winning the GW Invitational last weekend. George Washington pushed then-No. 11 Oregon to a five-set match in the first week of the season.

• Chidima Osuchukwu posted 89 kills in four matches last week and leads the team and conference with 132 kills on the season. Jordan Timmey leads the Atlantic 10 with 334 assists and 11.13 assists per set.

• The Terps are 26-26 all-time against the Colonials. Maryland won the last meeting, a three-set sweep in 2013.

Scouting the texas tech red raiders

• The Red Raiders are 6-1 to start the season. The team's only loss came at Stephen F. Austin last Friday. Texas Tech has won five matches in straight sets.

• Lauren Douglass leads the Raiders wtih 63 kills and 3.15 kills per set. Mauguerite Grubb has been the team's setter all season, posting 246 assists (11.18 per set). Three Red Raiders are averaging 1.00 or more blocks per set.

• Maryland is 1-0 in program history against Texas Tech with the only previous meeting coming in 1994.

ALL ABOUT that ACE

• The Terps have excelled at serving in 2015 as the tea ranks tenth nationally in total aces (55). Maryland is also 19th in the nation in aces per set (1.96).

• Freshman Abby Bentz's jump serve has proved fatal for other teams. She leads the team with 0.54 aces per set, which ranks third in the Big Ten and 30th nationally. Bentz is 28th nationally and is second in the conference with 13 aces.

• Junior Whitney Craigo ranks sixth in the Big Ten with 0.38 aces per set. Ashlyn MacGregor is not far behind with 0.36 aces per set while Amy Dion has 0.32 aces per set.

• Maryland is among the nation's best in blocking. The Terps rank seventh nationally in total blocks (78) while ranking No. 23 in the nation in blocks per set (2.79).

• Junior Ashlyn MacGregor paces Maryland with 40 total blocks and 1.43 blocks per set. MacGregor ranks 37th nationally in blocks per set and is fifth in the nation and leads the Big Ten in total blocks.

• Sophomore Hailey Murray, who led Maryland in blocking in 2014, has posted 1.07 blocks per set while Adreené Elliott averages 0.96 blocks per set.

terps win maryland invite

• Maryland started the season 4-0 and won the Maryland Invite last weekend.

• Outside hitter Adreené Elliott and middle blocker Hailey Murray were named to the all-tournament team while Elliott earned MVP honors. Elliott led the Terps with 36 kills on .281 hitting in four matches while also combining on 13 blocks. Murray posted 23 kills and 14 blocks.

• The Terps opened the season with three straight-set wins (Morgan State, Duquesne, Hofstra) for the first time since 1997.

second season under steve aird

• The Terps continue their journey in the Big Ten under second-year head coach Steve Aird.

• A two-time NCAA champion with Penn State, Aird led Maryland to a 6-0 start in his first season, the program's best since 2005.

• Aird and his staff were instrumental in increasing community support for the Terps as the team set four attendance records in 2014.

Terps' BTN Schedule Released

• Maryland will have at least 15 of its conference matches featured on Big Ten Network platforms in 2015.

• The Terps open the conference slate on the Big Ten Network as Maryland hosts Illinois on Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.

• Maryland will be featured on BTN Plus, the network's subscription-based platform, in 14 conference appearances.

dion, fraik named team captains

• Seniors Amy Dion and Emily Fraik were announced as the 2015 team captains.

• A three-year starter at libero, Dion led the team in digs in 2014. She serves as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee president.

• An important contributor since her freshman season at outside hitter, Fraik was second on the team in kills last season. Off the court, she holds a 4.0 GPA as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major.

murray competes with big ten's best

• Sophomore middle blocker Hailey Murray traveled to Slovenia, Croatia and Italy as a member of the first-ever Big Ten Foreign Tour team in June.

• Alongside student-athletes from the other 13 conference programs, Murray played seven matches overseason, including five against national teams.

• Murray will be an important contributor to the Terps in 2015 as she led the team in blocks last season as just a freshman.

elliott returns to the terps

• Redshirt senior Adreené Elliott returns to Maryland after the outside hitter suffered a season-ending injury just seven matches into the 2014 season.

• Elliott was named All-ACC Third Team in 20143 and ACC All-Freshman team in 2011.

• In the summer of 2014, Elliott was selected to participate in the U.S. Collegiate National Team program in Minneapolis. The Winston Salem, N.C., native is just eight kills away from reaching 1,000 for her career.

tough road ahead

• In their second season in the Big Ten, the Terps once again have a challenging slate.

• Maryland will play 16 matches against 12 teams that were ranked or received votes in the preseason AVCA Coaches Poll.

• Nine of the Terrapins' conference foes eaerned spots in the poll, including No. 1 Penn State, T-No. 5 Nebraska and Wisconsin and No. 8 Illinois.

aird announces 2015 signing class

• Head coach Steve Aird welcomed four freshman for the 2015 season.

• The 2015 signing class features setter Abby Bentz, opposite hitter Angel Gaskin, outside hitter Liz Twilley and defensive specialist/libero Kelsey Wicinski.

• Bentz was named a 2015 PrepVolleyball Academic All-American while Twilley was the 2014 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year. Wicinski was a three-time defensive player of the year selection and Gaskin was an all-conference performer.
