Solomon Eye Terp of the Week: Alex Anthony

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After sophomore forward Alex Anthony recorded her second two-goal game of the season against Yale on Sunday, she was asked about the keys to another sensational performance.
The answer may surprise you.
“I keep scoring when my mom comes to the games,” Anthony said. “I have to make sure to keep getting her to come because she's apparently the key.”
While her mom may provide the inspirational spark for Anthony, the sophomore's performance can be more attributed to a combination of newfound health and a constant confidence that defines a great goal scorer.
“Alex is just a really confident kid,” head coach Jonathan Morgan said after the Terps' 5-1 over Yale. “She carries the burden or scoring goals for this team. She doesn't dwell on misses.”
In 2015, Anthony hasn't missed a beat. After playing on a minutes limit last season, Anthony has burst onto the national scene with six goals in her first eight matches, a mark that ranks second in the Big Ten. The sophomore made history against Navy, tallying the fastest goal in Maryland soccer history in just 13 seconds.

“It's just about being dialed in,” Anthony said. “I'm a little frustrated I don't have eight goals in eight games. Hopefully in the future I'll put more away.
Anthony's next opportunity comes in the Terps' biggest match of the season, a showdown with unbeaten No. 13 Rutgers on Friday night at Ludwig Field in the Big Ten opener. Regardless of the magnitude of the stage, Morgan is confident Anthony will rise to the occasion.
“When she sees it. She doesn't shrink. She gets big. She wants to score.”
