Terps Announce Second Annual Beauty and the Beast

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland gymnastics and wrestling teams will host their second annual Beauty and the Beast event on Sunday, February 14 at 2 p.m. The teams will compete simultaneously on the XFINITY Center main floor with the gymnasts facing conference foe Rutgers and the wrestlers taking on George Mason.

"We're definitely looking forward to this event," said wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy. "Last year was definitely a success, and we're excited to once again expose our sport to a new group of fans. This is a great event for the University of Maryland and it'll be another big day for Terps gymnastics and wrestling."

Maryland hosted 2,091 fans for the inaugural Beauty and the Beast event last season, creating an incredible environment for the competing athletes.

“We're really excited for Beauty and the Beast this season,” gymnastics head coach Brett Nelligan said. “It was an amazing environment last year for both teams and a lot of fun to compete in. We're expecting another electric atmosphere as fans get to support both programs.”

Admission is free to Beauty and the Beast. After the event, fans can participate in an autograph session with the wrestlers and gymnasts. Fans are also encouraged to stick around for a special showing of Finding Nemo on the XFINITY Center videoboard.

This year's event will support both the Children's Miracle Network and the Special Olympics. Fans are encouraged to bring and donate gently used toys to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. Local members of Special Olympics Maryland, D.C., or Virginia are invited to join the Terps on the floor for team introductions. Visit ter.ps/bnb to RSVP your Special Olympic athlete.

February 14 will also serve as the Spring Sports Kickoff. Maryland coaches and student-athletes from spring sports will be signing autographs in Heritage Hall from 1-2 p.m.
