MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore midfielder Amar Sejdic gave the No. 1 Maryland men's soccer team the only goal it needed Monday night as it downed No. 22 West Virginia, 1-0, to stay unbeaten in 2016.
It was the fifth goal of the year for Sejdic, as Maryland (10-0-2) is outscoring foes by a 29-7 margin this season. Senior goalkeeper Cody Niedermeier made a career-high eight saves to notch his fifth-straight shutout.
"It was a very quality win against a very determined West Virginia team,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said. “They were up for the occasion and had a huge crowd. We responded very well. We got the early goal and we showed some determination on the defensive side of the ball and some grit."
Sejdic's goal from a Jake Rozhansky assist in the 26th minute proved to be the lone goal the Terps would need in the match.
Maryland returns to Big Ten Conference action on Friday when it plays host to Wisconsin at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
