COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland running back Lorenzo Harrison III was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Harrison helped Maryland (5-2, 2-2 B1G) top Michigan State on Saturday by rushing for a career-high 105 yards on 17 carries (6.2 yards/c) with a touchdown.
The rookie out of DeMatha Catholic High School leads the Terps and ranks fifth nationally among true freshmen in both rushing yards (502) and rushing yards per game (71.7). He is currently on pace to break LaMont Jordan's freshman record of 689 rushing yards in a single-season, set in 1997.
Harrison, who was the first Maryland freshman in school history to score a rushing touchdown in each of his first four games, leads the team and is tied for fifth nationally among true freshmen with five touchdowns on the year.
Harrison and the Terps return to action on Saturday at Indiana. The game is set to kick at 3:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
