Better Know a Terp: Hannah Hoefs

Throughout the season, umterps.com will introduce the Maryland community to each of its new players. The “Better Know a Terp” series continues with Hannah Hoefs.


Season Report: Hoefs has started two games and played in nine, notching three shots in 202 minutes.

Before Maryland: Was a high school standout in Maryland for Linganore and Parkside High School. Earned all-state honors twice. Also helped her club, ASA Azzuri, win four straight Maryland state titles.

Quick Hits

umterps.com: When did you start playing soccer?
Hannah Hoefs: In first grade.

umterps.com: How did you get into it?
Hannah Hoefs:  I played T-Ball in kindergarten and it was really boring just standing out in the outfield so I wanted to do something that was on my feet and running around.

umterps.com: Who is your favorite soccer player?
Hannah Hoefs: I'd say growing up it was Mia Hamm and now it is probably Megan Rapinoe.

umterps.com: What other sports did you play as a kid besides soccer?
Hannah Hoefs: In high school I did track, bocce and tennis. Bocce was unified with the Special Olympics so that was a really cool experience.

umterps.com: What's the most interesting thing you have accomplished?
Hannah Hoefs: I won four straight state titles with my club team.  

umterps.com: What is your favorite part of College Park non-sports related?
Hannah Hoefs: I think just being so close to home but far enough so it's not like I'm seeing my parents every day. You have that type of freedom.  

umterps.com: What is your favorite part of coming to College Park?
Hannah Hoefs: Just how close all the girls are. Everyone gets along with each other and we are able to do stuff off the field together.

umterps.com: You're a Maryland native, how much does it mean to you to play for Maryland?
Hannah Hoefs: I grew up rooting for Maryland and pretty much all of my family has come here so getting to go to school here and play here is a great accomplishment.

umterps.com: What is your favorite place to eat in College Park?
Hannah Hoefs: Bagel Place.

umterps.com: What do you miss most from home?
Hannah Hoefs: My dog! His name is Dunkin after Dunkin Donuts.

umterps.com: Favorite pregame meal?
Hannah Hoefs: Chipotle.

umterps.com: TV show you are watching right now?
Hannah Hoefs: Glee.

umterps.com: Favorite pump up song?
Hannah Hoefs: Anything country.

umterps.com: Favorite thing to do on a soccer field?
Hannah Hoefs: Break ankles. Nutmegs.

Catch Hannah and the Maryland women's soccer team at their next home match Thursday, October 6 against Ohio State at Ludwig Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game is Maryland's “Pink Game” with the first 100 fans in attendance getting a t-shirt. A silent auction will be held to benefit Breast Cancer research.
