Maryland Competes at Mat Town Open

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Maryland had a host of unattached entries compete at the Mat Town Open hosted by Lock Haven University on Sunday. Several wrestlers posted multiple wins as Terps continue to make strides during their redshirt seasons.

Sophomore Brendan Burnham (174) won both of his matches on the day, beating Cochise Wanzer (Clarion) by tech fall (16-0) and Ray Berot (Lock Haven) by decision (12-7) before medically retiring. Freshman Niko Cappello (174) also  notched two wins in the 174-pound division, besting Cameron Caldarelli (Buffalo) by fall and Jarek Gozdieski (Bucknell) by decision.

Ryan Diehl (149) won twice before defaulting, beating David Kelly (Bucknell) and Sam Martino (Virginia) by decision. Michael Doetsch (141) won a pair of matches, taking out Mikey Obrien (Kutztown) by major decision (14-3) and Bradley Bihler (Buffalo) by decision in the consolation ladder. 

Maryland wrestling will be back in action on Friday, December 9 when the team competes in a tri-match vs. George Mason and North Dakota State.
