Trettel, Powell Set School Records in Ohio

GENEVA, Ohio. – In a meet featuring multiple Big Ten schools, the Maryland track and field team recorded a solid performance at the Spire Invitational this weekend.
Junior Micha Powell captured the 400m title and improved her school record in the event to 53.53. She improved her national standing to t-24th in the event.
Senior Dan Trettel continued a spectacular senior campaign with a school record time of 1:50.17 in the 800m.
Alexandra Lucki remained in fine form with a victory in the 1000m. Lucki's time of 2:50.08 moved her to No. 2 all time in school history. She also ran a 2:09.91 in the 800m, the fifth-best mark in school history.
In the throws, senior Chioma Onyekwere nabbed the shot put title with a toss of 51'4.25” before placing fifth in the weight throw. Sophomore Claudia Ababio placed sixth in the weight throw.
The Terps were in action in the Pentathlon for first time this season and sophomore Peyton Wade took second with a total of 3,749. Freshman Jewel Smith was sixth while senior Lauren Ball placed seventh.
The long jump saw Kayla Richardson finish sixth with a leap of 18' 6.50'. She returned for the triple jump and placed fifth with a mark of 38' 11”.
In the 400m, Alex Leto moved into sixth place all time in Maryland history with a 48.58 while Dahri Jahn-Richardson clocked 48.76, the ninth-best time in school history.
Sophomore Chandler Baxter nabbed a season-best 41.03 to finish third in the 300m dash. Catherine Voelpel was strong in the 600m, posting a time of 1:32.39.
The 4x400m relay saw the team of Powell, Lisa Meneau, Taylor Tucker and Thaila Cooper ran a season-best time of 3:42.76.
