COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Maryland volleyball freshman Gia Milana was selected to participate in the U.S. Women's National Team Open Tryouts, held at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs from Feb. 19-21.
“I'm just really excited to be around so many college players and learn as much as I can over the weekend,” Milana said. “I can't wait to play volleyball at an even higher level. I'm excited and ready!”
Milana was one of 231 athletes selected from 88 colleges and universities to compete this weekend. Participants will be vying for spots on the U.S. Women's National Team, the U.S. Collegiate National Teams program and the U.S. Junior National Team.
“Gia is a good young player who is excited about the opportunity to train with the nation's best,” Maryland head coach Steve Aird said. “It is a fantastic event with a great staff. She will learn a lot, have a great time and no doubt represent our program the right way.”
The Romeo, Mich., native is one of just 11 players who have not played a collegiate game yet invited to tryouts. Milana enrolled at Maryland in January and is the Terps' first Under Armour First Team All-American in program history. She was named the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year and Miss Volleyball Michigan.
