
Terps in Action at Black & Gold Challenge

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Maryland track and field programs had several standout performances at the University of Central Florida Black & Gold Challenge Friday & Saturday in Orlando. It was the first outdoor meet of the season for the squad, capping off a week-long training trip in the sunshine state.
Men
Junior Brandon Thompson had a standout day in the sprint events, winning both the 100 meter and 200 meter runs. He captured the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.62, then topped the field in the 200 meter run with a mark of 21.71.
Sophomore Alex Leto was edged by just one hundredth of a second in the 400 meter dash, taking second with a time of 48.00. Junior Dahri Jahn-Richardson was also in the top-five with a time of 48.69.
Maryland had three of the top six placers in the 1500 meter run, with junior Tom Hogarty (3:55.11), sophomore Louis Corgliano (3:59.17) and freshman Aaron Barlev (4:09.70) going 2-4-6. Sophomore Diego Lyon was the lone Terp representative in the 110 meter hurdles, finishing fifth in 15.15.
Nick Pulli was eighth in Friday's hammer throw with a mark of 49.33 meters. The 4x400 relay team of Leto, Jahn-Richardson, Bleichner and Miawad combined to win the event with a time of 3:16.45.
Women
Maryland swept the top three spots in the 400 meter hurdles, led by a sub-minute time of 59.91 from junior Lisa Meneau. Junior Taylor Tucker (1:01.28) and junior Alexandra Cimino (1:01.32) took second and third (respectively), while Thaila Cooper (1:03.56) was sixth in the field.
Graduate student Charlotte Staver placed third in a deep field of 800-meter runners, posting a time of 2:12.18. Sophomore Alexandra Lucki also finished in the top-10 with a mark of 2:15.85.
Maryland had the No. 4 and No. 6 finisher in the 100 meter hurdles, as senior Noella Anyangwe and sophomore Peyton Wade went 14.61 and 14.77 (respectively). Junior Sydney Almeida was the top Maryland finisher in the 1500 meter run with a mark of 4:51.49.
Fresh off her first career NCAA Indoor Championship appearance, senior Chioma Onyekwere took fifth in the women's discus with a toss of 49.49 meters. Onyekwere was also third in the shotput with a distance of 16.05 meters.
Sophomore Claudia Ababio was 14th in the discus with a throw of 39.25 meters, while she took sixth in Friday's hammer throw (50.72). Maryland went 5-6 in Friday's javelin throw, as Jillian Maloney (36.70m) and Peyton Wade (35.16) made their season debuts.
The women's 4x400 squad of Cooper, Cimino, Alexander and Staver took second in the field.
Maryland will return home for the Maryland Invitational at the Kehoe Track & Field Complex on Saturday, March 26. First event is slated for 10:00 am.
