COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland volleyball team hosted more than 95 guests, donors and alumni to celebrate the Terps' past, present and future at the team's annual banquet Saturday evening.
“It was a great day for the program,” head coach Steve Aird said. “We're thankful when friends of the Terps and alumni can come together and celebrate with the current roster. There was a lot of excitement and pride in the volleyball program on Saturday. We're looking forward to continuing to grow support and momentum to keep moving in the right direction.”
Prior to the evening's events, the Terps competed in a match against the Chesapeake Rising Tide, a member of the USA Volleyball Premier Volleyball League. Maryland fell to the Tide, 3-1.
The Terps hosted the banquet at the Marriott Inn & Conference Center. Attendees mingled with the coaching staff and players before eating dinner. Assistant coach Kristin Kenney gave attendees a look at the incoming class of freshmen. Those in attendance also got the first look at the 2016 fall schedule, which will be released publicly later this week.
“We're so thankful to everyone who attended the banquet and match,” junior setter Whitney Craigo said. “We have so many wonderful fans at our matches during the season, and it's great to reconnect with a lot of them and have them celebrate the Terps with us.”
The coaching staff and team honored seniors Kelsey Hrebenach, Emily Fraik, Dani Bozzini, Amy Dion and Adreené Elliott at the banquet.
The Terps showed great improvement in 2016 as the team played its most difficult schedule in program history. Maryland posted 15 wins, five more than the previous season. The Terps upset No. 12 Ohio State in straight sets on Nov. 6, marking the team's first win over a ranked opponent since 2010.
