INDIANAPOLIS—The Maryland women's golf team played the third and final round of the Big Ten Championship Sunday with Northwestern and Ohio St. each earning a share of the Big Ten title.
Terps freshman Ludovica Scandroglio had the team-low round on day three, finishing the third round by shooting a 72 (even) and ending the tournament with a 44th place finish of a 223 (+7).
However, the team's best overall finisher for the championship was junior Alexandra Papell, who scored team-low rounds on both day one and two of the championship. She ended the tournament tied for 21st, which capped off a very good spring season for the Papell as she goes into her senior year.
“Alexandra Papell had a great tournament, I'm proud of the way she played this week,” Head Coach Diane Cantu said.
Freshman Ludovica Farina played her best round of the weekend today, shooting a 75 (+3). Farina and Senior Brooke Kochevar both finished tied for 77th for the tournament. Senior Jessica Gregory ended her college career by shooting her tournament-low round of an 84 (+12), ending the Big Ten Championship in 83rd.
While the Terps did not finish the season the way they hoped, Head Coach Diane Cantu felt that her team learned a lot that they can use to build into next year.
“The team learned a lot from this season, said Cantu. “There are things we need to work on as a team and individually but I truly believe that we will have a successful year next year. I'm excited about our incoming class and the impact they will have on this program."
The NCAA women's Golf Championships selection show will air on Monday at 6 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
