Durkin to Serve as Honorary Chairman of Best Buddies Friendship Walk

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland Head Football Coach DJ Durkin will serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2016 Best Buddies Friendship Walk, which is schedule for this Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Best Buddies Friendship Walk consists of a two mile walk around the College Park campus.  Following the walk, there will be food and the annual Friendship Games inside the XFINITY Center Pavilion.

Coach Durkin and members of the Terps football team will be on hand to volunteer, take pictures and greet participants during the walk.

“We are pleased to welcome Coach Durkin and his family to Best Buddies Maryland,” said Vince Fiduccia, Best Buddies State Director.  “We are also pleased to continue our relationship with Maryland Football. The players and staff have been an integral part of our success over the last few years.”

The annual event benefits Best Buddies Maryland, a nonprofit that creates one-to-one friendships, leadership opportunities and integrated employment for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  

The Best Buddies Maryland Friendship Walk has raised more than $742,000 in the last six years and has seen more than 4,200 walkers take part.  The organization is striving to raise $265,000 from this year's event. All participants who raise more than $50 will receive an official event t-shirt.

About Best Buddies:
 Best Buddies Maryland is a nonprofit whose mission it is to establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  In Maryland, Best Buddies serves 5,000 citizens with and without disabilities and impacts 50,000 citizens through eight signature programs.
