COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland junior linebacker Jermaine Carter, Jr. has been named to the Butkus Award watch list, it was announced on Tuesday by the Butkus Foundation.
The Butkus award, now in its 32nd year, is awarded annually to the nation's best linebacker.
Carter started all 12 games for the Terps at middle linebacker in 2015. He led the team with 103 tackles en route to being named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten.
The Fort Washington, Md. native posted 14.0 tackles for loss as a sophomore, the most for a Maryland middle linebacker since E.J. Henderson in 2002.
Semi-finalists for the Butkus Award will be named October 31, finalists November 21, and winners will be notified on or before December 6.
