MacGregor Named B1G Defensive Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior middle blocker Ashlyn MacGregor was selected as the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
 
The Tarpon Springs, Fla., native helped lead the Terps to a 3-0 opening weekend and the Maryland Invite title. MacGregor was named to the Maryland Invite all-tournament team.
 
Against Sacred Heart, MacGregor posted a career-high 14 blocks, including two solo blocks and 12 block assists. Through three matches, she is averaging 2.33 blocks per set. MacGregor also served four aces in the Maryland Invite, good for 0.44 aces per set.
 
MacGregor is Maryland's first-ever Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Ohio State's Taylor Sandbothe was named Big Ten Player of the Week while Kelly Hunter (Nebraska) and Lauren Carlini (Wisconsin) shared Setter of the Week honors. Wisconsin's Molly Haggerty was named Freshman of the Week.

The Terps travel to Lawrence, Kansas, for the Kansas Invitational next weekend. Maryland will face Arkansas and the No. 5 Jayhawks on Friday before facing Chicago State on Saturday.
