KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Maryland women's golf team finished tied for fifth with host school Tennessee as it wrapped up action at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate on Tuesday afternoon at Cherokee Country Club.
Freshman Xiaolin Tian continued to impress in her collegiate debut, finishing tied for fifth (69-71-72/212).
"I'm excited about Xiaolin's performance at her first collegiate event. She has already made a big impact on our team," head coach Diana Cantu, a former All-American at Tennessee, said.
Senior Panitta Yusabai posted her tournament-low round on Tuesday, finishing tied for 10th (71-74-70/215) while sophomore Ludovica Farina tied for 23rd (73-70-75/218).
Ludovica Scandroglio tied for 35th after dropping two strokes from second round score (72-75-73/220). Senior transfer Lauren Salazar rounded out the group tying for 75th (77-78-84/239).
"It was a strong and solid start to our fall season. I'm happy with how the team played and proud of them for competing at a high level this week,” Cantu said. “We are going to keep working hard on our games in order to consistently shoot the scores we shot this week.”
The Terps edged out nationally-ranked foes No. 13 Wake Forest and No. 28 North Carolina, who finished tied for 10th and eighth, respectively.
Maryland returns to action on Sept. 23 for the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
