Terps Earn First Road Win Over Arkansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Freshman outside Gia Milana notched her first career double-double as the Maryland volleyball team (4-0) earned its first road win over Arkansas (0-4) in four sets on Friday. The Terps won by set scores of 25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-19.

Milana tallied 18 kills and 14 digs while sophomores Liz Twilley and Angel Gaskin also had double-digit kills with 12 and 11, respectively. Senior middle blocker Ashlyn MacGregor posted nine kills and 10 blocks.

Senior setter Whitney Craigo made 47 assists and nine digs while sophomore libero Kelsey Wicinski notched 19 digs.

MacGregor and Gaskin led the Terps with four blocks each in set one. A block from Craigo and MacGregor put Maryland ahead 8-6 and a kill from Twilley forced an Arkansas timeout at 11-7. MacGregor combined with Gaskin and Craigo for a pair of blocks a notched a kill to put the Terps at set point, 24-17. The Razorbacks put up four straight points before an Arkansas service error gave the Terps a 25-21 set win.

The Terps started with an early lead in set two and used a 3-0 run to get out to 13-9. Craigo and junior Hailey Muray combined for a block to go up 17-13. MacGregor notched a kill before getting a block with Gaskin to get to set point, 24-20. MacGregor and Gaskin again worked together for a block to win the set, 25-22.

The teams played closely in set three with six ties and three lead changes. Murray and Twilley made kills to pull within one of Arkansas, 15-14, before a block from MacGregor and Craigo tied the set, 16-16. The Razorbacks used a 3-0 run to take a 19-16 lead before pulling out to a 23-20 lead. Arkansas rattled off the next two points to win the set, 25-20.

The Terps controlled set four from the beginning as back-to-back kills from Milana forced a Razorbacks timeout at 6-4. Arkansas pulled within one at 13-12, before the Terps forced another timeout at 18-13. Gaskin notched the final two kills as Maryland won the set, 25-19, and the match win.

The Terps return to the court tonight to face No. 4 Kansas (3-0) at 7 p.m. ET.
