COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women's soccer team fell, 4-1, to No. 21 Northwestern at Ludwig Field Saturday afternoon.

The Terrapins (3-7-1, 1-1-1 Big Ten) received their lone goal from freshman Jlon Flippens. Northwestern scored three first half goals before the Terps cut into the lead in the second half.

Marisa Viggiano opened the scoring in the fourth minute, seeing her corner go straight in at the near post. Kassidy Gorman tallied off an assist from Maddy Lucas in the 18th minute to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

In the 41st minute, Maria Grygleski finished off a Mary Erikson cross from class range to increase the Northwestern advantage.

Redshirt freshman Darby Moore had Maryland's best chance of the match in the 55th minute. Junior Marisa Knott laid the ball off to Moore, who fired just over the crossbar from 25 yards out.

Maryland grabbed a goal back in the 62nd minute. Sophomore Jarena Harmon made a driving sole run into the box and was brought down. Flippens then finished off the spot kick to the left side of the keeper to cut the Northwestern advantage to 3-1.

Kayla Sharples finished off the scoring for Northwestern with a headed effort off a Viggiano corner.

Junior Madison Turner finished with two shots and was Maryland's most dangerous attacking threat throughout. Sophomore Katelyn Jensen tallied four saves.

Maryland returns to action Thursday against Michigan State. Action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
