ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophomore Jarena Harmon notched a goal and as assist, but Navy scored three first half goals and eventually prevailed 5-3 over the Maryland women's soccer team at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility in Annapolis Wednesday night.

The Terrapins (2-4-1) attempted a furious comeback after falling behind 3-0 at the half, but were unable to pull back the Midshipman. Juniors Kate Waters and Chelsea Jackson also tallied for Maryland.

“I'm proud of them because this was a difficult game,” head coach Ray Leone said. “They were down three at halftime and they came back out flying and took a lot of risk. We went for it and I'm really proud of them.”

After a fairly even start, Navy took the lead in the 12th minute after Alex Jackson tapped the ball over the line off a corner to the far post. Clare MacAdam added to the Navy advantage in the 33rd minute with a 30-yard curling effort that beat Terrapin goal keeper Rachel Egyed.

Rachel Feldman finished the scoring for Navy in the first half, scoring from a penalty in the 41st minute.

Maryland started well in the second half, with freshman Jlon Flippens finding a solid opportunity just outside the box in the 47th minute. A couple minutes later sophomore Cassie Phillips' free kick opportunity was saved by Navy keeper Dayton Wetherby.

Waters pulled the Terps within two in the 56th minute. After some solid hold up play and a turn from Harmon, the sophomore played in Waters who slotted the ball past the Wetherby for the first goal of her career.

After Cadie Higginson scored to put Navy back up three goals, Harmon scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Flippens send in a free kick that was parried away by Wetherby, but Harmon made a quick shot back towards goal that trickled in.

The Midshipmen finish of their scoring on a penalty kick from MacAdam in the 82nd minute. Jackson scored in the 86th minute. A couple of initial effort in the box by Badham and Flippens were a part of a scramble in the box that ultimately led to Jackson poking the ball into the back of the net.

The Terrapins return to action Sunday against George Mason at Ludwig Field. Action is scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m., and the match can be seen live on the BTN Plus.
