COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland volleyball team (13-5, 2-4 B1G) is back on the road as the Terps face Northwestern (12-6, 2-4) on Friday at Illinois (13-4, 4-2) on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.
Due to construction on Welsh-Ryan Arena, Maryland's match vs. Northwestern will be played at DePaul's McGrath-Phillips Arena in Chicago.
The Terps went 1-1 last week: sweeping Rutgers last Friday before falling to then-No. 3 Penn State in three sets on Saturday. With the win over the Scarlet Knights, Maryland surpassed its 2016 win total.
The Wildcats and Fighting Illini both went 1-1 last week with wins over Indiana and losses to then-No. 18 Purdue. Northwestern's Symone Abbott lead the conference with 4.42 kills per set while Illinois' Ali Bastianelli leads the Big Ten with 1.85 blocks per set.
Maryland's match against Michigan State on Oct. 21 will be played on the XFINITY Center main court with a 5:30 p.m. opening serve. The teams will compete before the Maryland basketball programs host their annual Maryland Madness. Admission to the match will be free.
Junior libero Kelsey Wicinski leads the Terps in the back row and currently leads the conference with 4.78 digs per set.
In just her first season as a Terp, freshman outside hitter Erika Pritchard has been a crucial player for the Terps. A member of the program's highest-ranked recruiting class, Pritchard is second on Maryland with 2.95 kills per set and leads the Big Ten with 0.57 service aces per set. The Middletown, Md., native ranks fourth nationally in aces per set.
Maryland went 11-1 in nonconference play, the team's best showing in nonconference play since going 8-1 in 2007. The Terps began the season with 10 straight wins, the best start to a season for the program since 2005.
