
Hanks, Holsboer Selected for Senior Game

GILBERT, Ariz. – Seniors Carrie Hanks and Lein Holsboer of the Maryland field hockey team (11-5, 5-2 B1G) are two of 38 senior student-athletes around the country to be selected to the roster for the Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game on Nov. 17.
The Senior Game contest will be played following the semifinals of the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Tournament, which takes place on Nov. 17 at 2 and 4:45 p.m. at Louisville. The NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship will be held on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m.
Thirty-eight student-athletes have been selected to the roster and 12 have been named alternates. For the full list, click here.
In her career, Hanks has played in all 85 games of her career, starting in 84. She's scored 11 goals with 13 assists as part of the Terps' defensive unit. She was named to the NFHCA All-Mid Atlantic Region Second Team in 2015 and 2016. Hanks has earned All-Big Ten Academic honors and has been named a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar the last two years.
Holsboer has scored 21 goals, 10 this season, with 33 assists in her four years in College Park. Last year, Holsboer was named an NFHCA Third Team All-American and earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors. She has also earned All-Big Ten Academic honors the last two years.
Hanks and Holsboer are joined in the class of 2017 by Marissa Cutry, Brooke Adler, Maddy Ulery and Layne Litsinger. As a class, they've earned a record of 66-18 and won the 2014, 2015, 2016 Big Ten Championships.
No. 12 Maryland handled No. 3 Virginia (12-3) for 68 of 70 minutes to capture a 5-4 win in Charlottesville Tuesday evening. The Terrapins led 5-1 in the second half, but late goals by the Cavaliers in the final two minutes cut into Maryland's lead. Holsboer scored Maryland's third goal for a 3-1 lead.
The Terrapins have won five straight games, including three straight over ranked teams after beating No. 25 Ohio State Friday, No. 6 Penn State Sunday and the third-ranked Cavaliers Tuesday.
Maryland was tabbed as the No. 12 team in the country in the Penn Monto/Division I Coaches poll released Oct. 17.
Next, the Terrapins will close the regular season with a matchup at No. 21 Rutgers (9-6, 3-3) Sunday at 1 p.m.
