COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team (14-7, 3-6 B1G) return to the XFINITY Center main court to host 10th-ranked Michigan State (14-4, 7-2) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The teams will compete before the basketball programs host Maryland Madness. Admission to the match is free.
Parking lots surround XFINITY will be free and open for Saturday. A Clear Bag Policy will be in effect for Saturday's match.
The Terrapins are coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 9 Wisconsin. Freshman Erika Pritchard led Maryland with 10 kills against the Badgers. The match against Wisconsin began a grueling stretch for the Terps as they compete in seven of eight matches against ranked opponents, including six matches against top-10 teams.
This is the second time this season the Terps and Spartans are facing off. Maryland traveled to then-No. 16 Michigan State on Sept. 27, when the Spartans picked up a 3-0 win. This is the seventh match the Terps will compete in against a ranked opponent.
The Spartans are led offensively by a trio of seniors who are each averaging more than 3.00 kills per set: Autumn Bailey (3.28), Brooke Kranda (3.28) and Holly Toliver (3.07).
Pritchard leads the Big Ten with 0.53 service aces and 39 total aces. The Middletown, Md., native has served at least one ace in six straight matches and has at least one ace in 17 of 21 matches.
As just a sophomore, outside hitter Gia Milana leads the Terps in kills for the second straight season, averaging 3.16 kills per set.
Freshman Samantha Burgio made her third appearance at libero against Wisconsin. In the last three matches, she's averaging 3.45 digs per set.
Maryland went 11-1 in nonconference play, the team's best showing in nonconference play since going 8-1 in 2007. The Terps began the season with 10 straight wins, the best start to a season for the program since 2005.
