COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team (16-10, 5-9 Big Ten) travels to No. 6 Nebraska (20-4, 13-1) Wednesday at 7 p.m. as the Terps face their fourth straight ranked opponent. The Terps-Huskers match will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
The Terps are in the middle of their toughest stretch this season as Maryland competes against four top-10 opponents on the road. The Terrapins are facing their fourth straight ranked opponent and third straight top-10 foe in Nebraska. Maryland will conclude the stretch on Saturday at No. 1 Penn State.
The Terps went 0-2 last weekend against top-10 opponents on the road. Maryland fell to No. 5 Minnesota in three sets, but but just a total eight points. The Terps took a set off No. 4 Wisconsin for the first time since Sept. 6, 1996.
Nebraska is on a seven-match win streak and earned wins over No. 22 Purdue and Indiana last week. Junior Mikaela Foeke leads the Huskers with 3.54 kills per set while senior Annika Albrecht is averaging 3.01. Maryland will host Nebraska on Nov. 18.
Sophomore outside hitter Gia Milana leads the Terps for the second straight season offensively. She is currently averaging 3.13 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Erika Pritchard currently leads the Big Ten with 0.46 service aces per set.
Freshman Samantha Burgio has slotted into the libero position over the last eight matches. In that span, she is averaging 3.73 digs per set. In two matches last week, she had no receiving errors. With Burgio in the lineup, the Terps currently start four freshmen, two sophomores and a senior.
Maryland has already hit numerous milestones in 2017. The Terps have upset two top-25 teams, earning the program's first-ever wins over Southern California and Purdue. The Terrapins began the season with 10 straight wins, the best start to a season for the program since 2005. Head coach Steve Aird has led Maryland to 16 wins so far this year, the most for him as the head of a program.
