COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland gymnastics team returns to the XFINITY Center to host No. 7 Michigan on Sunday at noon.

• The Terps-Wolverines meet will stream live on BTN Plus and will reair on the Big Ten Network at 4 p.m. Live results will be available here.

TERPS TO HOST FIRST PURPLE MEET

• Maryland will host its first-ever Purple Meet when the Terps take on Michigan on Feb. 5 in the XFINITY Center.

• The meet will honor Cystic Fibrosis Awareness, and the GymTerps will wear purple leotards for the event.

• Former GymTerp Jessie Black, who graduated in 2014, was diagnised with cystic fibrosis as a high school senior and competed for four years at Maryland while receiving treatments. Black helped design the leotards the Terps will wear Sunday.

• Maryland will host a silent auction to support the cause during the meet, and all proceeds will benefit the Boomer Esaison Foundation.

• Freshman Alecia Farina tied for the team high on three events and set two personal bests as the Terps fell at No. 22 Iowa, 195.975-193.800 last weekend. Farina set career highs on vault (9.775) and floor (9.825).

• Farina tied for third on floor with senior Emily Brauckmuller while junior Dominiquea Trotter tied for third place on beam with a 9.750.

• Maryland tied its season high team scores on uneven bars (48.775) and floor (48.825).

• The Terps currently rank No. 44 with an average score of 193.706. Maryland is tied for 35th nationally on bars.

• Michigan currently ranks No. 7 with an average score of 196.381. The Wolverines rank eighth on vault, 12th on bars, 12th on beam and fifth on floor.

Scouting the MICHIGAN WOLVERINES

• The Wolverines scored a season-high 197.225 to beat Nebraska last week.

• Senior Nicole Artz was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the second time this season. She ranks 11th nationally in the all-around and sixth nationally on floor.

• Michigan won the 2016 Big Ten Championship while Olivia Karas was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Karas and Artz are All-Americans.

• The Maryland gymnastics team will be featured on the Big Ten Network three times this season.

• The Terps' meet vs. Michigan in the XFINITY Center on Sunday, Feb. 5 will be aired live on BTN Plus at noon. Fans can catch a replay of the meet at 4 p.m. on the Big Ten Network. 

• Maryland will compete in one of two Big 5 meets at Illinois on Saturday, March 11. The meet will be aired live on BTN at 3 p.m.

• Both sessions of the Big Ten Championships will be aired live on BTN. The first session will take place at noon while the second session will be at 5 p.m.

• All Maryland home meets will be featured on BTN Plus.

seniors lead terps on vault

• Seniors Emily Brauckmuller and Sarah Faller have led Maryland on vault this season as both are averaging at least a 9.719 on the apparatus.

• In the season opener against West Virginia, the duo each posted 9.750s, the highest scores on the team. Brauckmuller and Faller notched matching scores again in the Maryland quad meet, the seniors tallied 9.775s, which placed fourth in the meet.

• Faller tied for second on vault at Penn State with a 9.800.

• Maryland welcomed one of the top freshman classes in program history this season, and the newest Terps have made an immediate impact.

• Five freshmen have found their way into the Maryland lineup this season. Alecia Farina, Kirsten Peterman and Deanna Magro have been important members of the vault lineup while Farina has been a force on bars. Magro posted a 9.750 on beam in her debut.

• Sophomores Shynelle Agaran, Amanda Bertorello and Megan McClelland have also been key for the Terps. Agaran notched a team-high 9.800 on bars in Maryland's first meet vs. West Virginia. In the Maryland quad meet, Bertorello set career highs on bars (9.750) and floor (9.800). McClelland has been a mainstay in the floor lineup since her freshman season.

• Ten of Maryland's 17 gymnasts are underclassmen.

FAller, Farina named b1g gymnasts to watch

• Senior Sarah Faller and freshman Alecia Farina were selected as Maryland's Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch in December.

• Faller has been a consistent performer for the Terps since her first season, competing on vault, bars and beam. Last season, Faller set a new career-high with a 9.850 on bars and tied a career high 9.800 on beam. The Raleigh, N.C., native is a two-time Big Ten All-Academic selection.

• Farina is a member of one of Maryland's strongest freshmen classes to date. She was the only gymnast in Ohio high school history to earn a perfect 10.0 on vault, which she did three times. Farina finished second on floor, 10th on vault and 23rd in the all-around at the 2016 U.S. Junior Olympic National Championship.

• The Terps were picked to finish ninth in the Big Ten preseason coaches poll.
