COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland volleyball head coach Steve Aird announced the addition of setter Chloe Prejean to the strongest freshman class in program history.
"Great programs are built around great people, and Chloe is a special kid," Aird said. "She works hard on the court, does well in the classroom, gives back to the community and truly cares. Chloe will be a tremendous ambassador for the University of Maryland and will contribute to the program in a variety of ways. We are excited she is joining our volleyball family."
A native of Clear Spring, Md., Prejean is a 2016 Under Armour Third Team All-American, Maryland's fourth Under Armour All-American in this year's freshman class.
"I grew up as a Terps fan and dreamed of being an athlete at Maryland," Prejean said. "Maryland is a dream school. I know I will be prepared for live because of the amazing academics and the volleyball program. Coach Aird and the entire volleyball staff want us to be both great volleyball players and great people."
A four-year starter at Heritage Academy, Prejean led the Eagles to the 2015 and 2016 conference championships and the 2015 state title. She compiled over 2,000 career assists in her four seasons.
Prejean won the 2016 Wendy's High School Heisman for the state of Maryland. She also played club for Revolution Volleyball.
A standout in the classroom, Prejean has over a 4.0 grade point average and is president of the National Honor Society for Heritage.
Prejean joins outside hitter Lexi Alden, defensive specialist Sam Burgio, hitter/setter Samantha Drechsel, middle blocker Jada Gardner and outside hitter Erika Pritchard as Maryland's 2017 freshmen.
The newest Terps will join a young, talented Maryland squad next year. Last season, the Terrapins had the first-ever ranked recruiting class in program history that came in at No. 16 nationally and featured Senior Aces Gia Milana and Katie Myers. Twelve of Maryland's 18 student-athletes next season will be underclassmen.
