
Terps Duo Named Top Two Players in 2017

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshmen Mayv Clune and Brooke DeBerdine of the Maryland field hockey team were named the nation's top two players of the class of 2017 by Max Field Hockey.
Clune, who came to College Park in January as a greyshirt student-athlete, was named the No. 1 overall player. She is a forward from Quakertown, Pa. She led her league with 42 goals in 2015 and 40 in 2014 and helped her Moravian Academy team to the District XI title in 2014, 2015, 2016. She was named First Team All-State for Pennsylvania three times. She has been a member of the U.S. Under-19 Team for three seasons.

DeBerdine, who will come to College Park this summer from Millersville, Pa., is the No. 2 overall rated player by Max Field Hockey. She scored 54 goals, 63 assists in her career and 24 goals, 28 assists as a senior at Penn Manor High School. She was named a High School All-American. Her Penn Manor team won four straight section championships, two league championships, finished top four in the state twice and were co-state champions in 2014. She competed with the U.S. Under-21 Team in the Junior World Cup this past November.
"We are thrilled that Max Field Hockey has identified Mayv and Brooke as the top two entering freshmen," head coach Missy Meharg said. "This is great for Maryland and for Big Ten field hockey. They are great students and exciting, competitive young women."
