LEXINGTON, Ky. – Sophomore Greg Thompson punched his ticket to his first career NCAA Championship event Saturday, taking tenth in the men's discus at the NCAA East Regional Meet. Thompson will join seniors Lisa Meneau and Micha Powell in Eugene, Ore. June 7-10 as the trio gets set to represent Maryland at Hayward Field.
After weather delays postponed the discus competition in the afternoon, Thompson finally took the track to throw 185-5 (56.52m). The mark was good for 10th in the field, as Maryland will now send three athletes to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year.
Junior Claudia Ababio wrapped up her 2017 campaign in the women's shot put throw Saturday, tossing 44-6¾ (13.58m).
