Stukenberg Named Honda Award Finalist

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Midfielder Zoe Stukenberg of the Maryland women's lacrosse team was named as one of four finalists for the Honda Sport Award Thursday.
 
Also a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award, Stukenberg led the Terps to a 23-0 record and the 2017 NCAA Championship as a senior captain. As a four-year starter, she led Maryland to an 89-3 overall record in her time as a Terp.
 
Stukenberg was named an IWLCA First Team All-American and the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year. The Ellicott City, Md., native ranked in the top three of every statistical category on the team, including 53 goals, 31 assists, 84 points, 48 ground balls, 74 draw controls and 21 caused turnovers. She was an All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament and NCAA All-Tournament selection.
 
Also a standout in the classroom, Stukenberg graduated with a 4.0 grade-point average in biological sciences, and earned her third Elite 90 Award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the NCAA Championship. She was selected as a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-Region selection.
 
Kenzie Kent (Boston College), Marie McCool (North Carolina) and Kylie Ohlmiller (Stony Brook) were also named finalists.
 
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 41 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies “the best of the best in collegiate athletics”.  The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2017 Honda Cup which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 26, 2017, in downtown Los, Angeles.
 
The nominees were chosen by a panel of coaches representing the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Honda Sport award winner for lacrosse will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
