
Terps Drop Sunday Match With Northwestern

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Maryland women's soccer team fell, 2-0, to Northwestern Sunday afternoon at Martin Stadium.
The Terrapins (7-2-1, 1-2-0 Big Ten) played from behind for most of the match after two first half goals from the Wildcats. Maryland splits its two-match road swing to Illinois after a 1-0 over Illinois on Friday.
In the ninth minute, sophomore Jlon Flippens forced a save on Maryland's first shot of the game. Northwestern did control the early part of the match, and scored on a pair of corners. Brenna Lovera tallied the first goal in the 17th minute and Hannah Davison scored in the 21st minute.
Maryland pushed for an equalizer before the half, and Flippens forced another save in the 37th minute. The team teams played an even half in the second 45 minutes, but the Terps were unable to grab two goals to get back in the match.
Freshman Gi Krstec had a pair of shots, while senior Madison Turner had Maryland's best chance in the in the 86th minute. Turner made a long with the ball into the box, but could not steer her shot past Northwestern keeper Lauren Clem.
Maryland returns to action on Friday in a doubleheader at Ludwig Field. The Terps will face Wisconsin at 3 p.m. prior to the Maryland men's soccer team's game with Northwestern at 7 p.m.
