COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team (12-2, 1-1 B1G) hits the road again to face No. 16 Michigan State (9-2, 2-0) and No. 23 Michigan (10-4, 0-2) this weekend.
The Terps went 1-1 in their first of Big Ten play. Maryland fell to Ohio State in three sets last Wednesday before sweeping Indiana on the road on Saturday. The Terrapins are in going into their second weekend of a four-match road trip.
No. 16 Michigan State returned to the top-25 after upsetting then-No. 1 Minnesota and then-No. 5 Wisconsin on the road last week. No. 23 Michigan fell to the Gophers and Badgers in the opening week of conference play.
The Terps received votes in last week's AVCA Coaches Poll. The last time Maryland was ranked in the poll was on Nov. 7, 2005.
Maryland went 11-1 in nonconference play, the team's best showing in nonconference play since going 8-1 in 2007. The Terps began the season with 10 straight wins, the best start to a season for the program since 2005.
Sophomore outside hitter Gia Milana returns to her home state this weekend. Milana leads Maryland offensively and is averaging 3.18 kills per set while ranking second on the team with 2.36 digs per set.
As a senior, middle blocker Hailey Murray has stepped up as a leader in the front row. She is averaging 2.06 kills per set and 1.06 blocks per set, and currently leads the nation with a .512 hitting percentage.
In just her first season as a Terp, freshman outside hitter Erika Pritchard has been a crucial player for the Terps. A member of the program's highest-ranked recruiting class, Pritchard is second on Maryland with 3.04 kills per set and leads the Big Ten with 0.64 service aces per set.
