Tian Leads Terps at Ocean Course Invite

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - Sophomore Xiaolin Tian finished in the top 10 to lead Maryland at the Ocean Course Invitational Tuesday.

Tian – who finished tied for 10th – posted a 73 in third round play to finish with a 220 for the tournament.

Freshman Laura Van Respaille tied for 22nd with a 227 (76-75-76) and fellow classmate also placed in the top 60 with a 236.

Sophomore Ludovica Farina (238) and Virunpat Olankitkunchai (248) rounded out play for the Terps.

“This was not the fast start we were looking for but our goal was to get better every day,” head coach Diana Cantu said. “We learned a lot about strengths and weaknesses this week. This was a young team in a tough course and in a tough field. Our goal this year is to get better every day, learn from our mistakes and get more confident as the season progresses.”

The Terps – who placed 11th in the overall team standings in their opening tournament - return to action at the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tenn., Sept. 18-19.
