COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Playing in front of more than 6,900 fans for the second time in three games, the No. 5 Maryland men's soccer team fought to a 0-0 draw with No. 4 Indiana in the Big Ten season opener on Friday at Ludwig Field.
Maryland (4-0-1, 0-0-1) was outshot 14-7 for the match but notched a strong defensive effort, led by redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair, who registered a career-high six saves, including incredible stops in the first overtime to keep Indiana (4-0-1, 0-0-1) off the board.
“I thought today was the first time all year I didn't think our midfielders and forwards were connected defensively and on attack. You'll have those moments. You have to credit Indiana. They are highly-motivated. They came in with a style that was very effective and put us under some pressure. Dayne St. Clair had an outstanding game. I thought the backs battled well.”
Maryland will return to action Tuesday for its third Big Ten Network match this season when it plays host to Rutgers at 8 p.m. at Ludwig Field.
