
Terps Host Penn State in First Home Meet of Season

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's gymnastics team (3-2, 0-1 B1G) hosts the Penn State Nittany Lions (1-1, 0-1 B1G) Friday, Jan.19, in the XFINITY Center. The team's first home meet will be at 7 p.m. and live streamed on BTN Plus.
Maryland is coming off an impressive showing against Minnesota, Northern Illinois and Winona State last week at the Minnesota Quad meet. The Terps placed second overall (194.025), trailing the Gophers (194.200). Northern Illinois scored a 193.575 and Winona State followed with 184.750.
Individually, Freshman Audrey Barber placed second in the all-around, earning a 38.825. Sophomores Alecia Farina and Kirsten Peterman also competed in the all-around, posting a 38.275 and 37.900. Sophomore Morgan Bixler and Barber tied for first on vault with a 9.775, and freshman Karrie Thomas tied for first on floor with a 9.800.
Last season, the Terps and Nittany Lions faced off in January where they lost 195.525-194.725.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
No. 26 Penn State heads to College Park coming off a close meet with Nebraska last week, where the Cornhuskers edged the Nittany Lions, 195.550-195.050.
Penn State opened up their 2018 season at home with a 194.275-192.900 victory over Eastern Michigan on Jan. 6. This Friday will be the Nittany Lions' third meet of the season and first away meet for head coach Sarah Brown, who is in her first year with the program.
Penn State senior Briannah Tsang was named the Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week, the second career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honor for Tsang. Against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Tsang won titles for the all-around (39.4255) and floor (9.900) exercises in addition to tying for the uneven bars (9.900) title.

The Terps will welcome Iowa to the XFINITY Center next Thursday, Jan. 25, at 6 p.m. The conference meet will be aired on the Big Ten Network.
