COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Student-athletes representing all teams at the University of Maryland were honored on Saturday at halftime of Maryland football's 63-33 vs. Illinois for their off-the-field academic excellence. President Loh and Athletic Director
Damon Evans introduced the student-athletes on the field in front of an announced attendance of 30,387.
Recognized for their dedication to academics as well as athletics, 317 students were named Scholar-Athletes and 209 were named Dean's List recipients. 23 students were recognized for earning perfect 4.0 GPAs in the fall and spring semesters.
Alex Leto and Kristen Confroy stole the show, as both were recognized for their distinguished excellence in the classroom, garnering awards across the board. They were both honored with the Big Ten Medal of Honor, the Big Ten and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Confroy was also recognized for receiving the NCAA Women's Enhancement Postgraduate Scholarship and being named the NCAA Woman of the Year.
Leto was additionally honored with the M Club Postgraduate Scholarship.
The Big Ten additionally recognized 153 student-athletes for being named Academic All-Big Ten and 25 student-athletes for being named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.
