No. 2 Terps Down No. 17 Rutgers in Meharg's 700th Game

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland field hockey freshman Bibi Donraadt tied her career-high with two goals and four points as the No. 2-ranked Terps defeated No. 17 Rutgers, 3-1, in a Big Ten contest Friday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

The Terrapins (13-0, 4-0 B1G) extended their conference win streak to eight while holding their opponent to just one goal or less for the eight time this season.

"I think Maryland played choppy today and I think we were very fortunate to be able to get on the board," said Meharg. "We had some segments of great hockey. I think we had some real clever goals. It was nice to score from the field as well. We had a couple rebound goals. I couldn't be more pleased. We were able to get a lot of players in."

Friday's game marked the 700th game for Missy Meharg in 31 seasons as the head coach at Maryland where she is now 556-135-9 (.801).

"It feels wonderful," added Meharg. "You wouldn't have 700 games and you wouldn't stay in a program like this unless you had great athletes and great families and that's what we have here at Maryland field hockey."

The Terps scored all three of their goals in the first 15 minutes, beginning with sophomore Kyler Greenwalt who picked up her second of the season just 5:01 into the game. It was her second goal in the last five games and the 10th of her career.

The goal marked the sixth-straight game in which Maryland has scored the game's first goal.

With the Terrapins still leading 1-0, Donraadt struck twice just 43 seconds apart, netting the eventual game-winner, the first of her career, with 21:26 remaining in the first half off an assist from senior Linnea Gonzales.

For Gonzales, it was the 90th point of her career as she has scored at least one point in eight of the team's 13 games this season.

Donraadt scored again with 20:43 to play, totaling her  second career multi-goal game and first since August 27 against UC Davis.

The Terps led 3-0 at the half after outshooting the Scarlet Knights, 8-0, and holding a 2-0 edge in penalty corners. The Terrapins also held defending national champion UConn without a shot in the first half last Sunday.

Rutgers (8-4, 1-4 B1G) finally got on the board with 11:45 left in the game, finding the back of the cage against junior Noelle Frost who entered the game in relief of senior Sarah Holliday. Holliday did not allow a goal in 56:47 while making one save.

Maryland travels to No. 7 Penn State (8-3, 3-1 B1G) on Sunday for a noon start with the Nittany Lions.

The game will air around the world on the Big Ten Network. Click here for your channel number for BTN. Fans can watch Sunday's game on BTN2Go.com and the BTN2Go app by logging in with their cable subscription info. Fans outside the U.S. can watch here. Live stats will be available here.
