COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Freshman Loren Sefcik was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week Tuesday in an announcement made by the conference offices. This is the first career B1G Weekly honor for Sefcik.
Sefcik scored the game-winning goal in Maryland's 2-1 upset win over #14 Northwestern on October 7, nailing a shot from the right wing into the left corner of the net to put the Terps ahead 2-0. The goal scored in the 34th minute was the first of her career, and clinched Maryland's first win over a ranked team since 2014.
It marks the second weekly honor of the season for Maryland, after redshirt senior goalkeeper Rachel Egyed earned Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week plaudits on September 11. Sefcik is the first Terp to be named Freshman of the Week since Mikayla Dayes garnered the honor on August 29, 2017. Â
Sefick and the rest of the Terps women's soccer squad will return to action on the road on Friday, October 12 when the team travels to University Park, Pa. to face Penn State.
