
Cantu Adds Two for Class of 2019

COLLEGE PARK, Md. –Head women's golf coach Diana Cantu has announced the signing of future Terps Angela Garvin and Maria Vittoria Corbi for the class of 2019 next season. The duo will bolster a strong core of returners next season for the Terrapins, who finished second at the 2018 Big Ten Championships. Cantu's five recruiting classes have helped lead the Terrapins to new heights, including their highest top 50 ranking in program history. Below is information on both signees.

Feeding Hills, Mass. || Agawam High School
Before Maryland: Five-time junior PGA Championship qualifier (2014-18)…2017 USGA Women's Amateur qualifier…2017 and 2018 Western Massachusetts Girls Champion…Tied for seventh with 74 at 2018 Division I Boys High School State Championship…2016 Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls State Champion and New England High School Girls Champion…National Honor Society…National Spanish Honor Society…Honor Roll.
Cantu on Garvin: "We are super excited to have Angela join our team. She will be a great addition to our program. Angela is strong in the classroom and on the golf course. Before Maryland: Finished in first place at the 2018 Biarritz Cup shooting 66-62-66-67 (-15)… finished first in the 2018 Italian U18 Team Championship… currently ranked ninth in the Italian Golf Order of Merit… was ranked No. 1 regionally in 2012-2013; ranked U14 No. 1 nationally in 2015… awarded the 2018 Bronze Medal of Athletic Value by the Italian Olympic Committee… took second place at the 2017 European Young Masters in Norway… previously competed in synchronized and competitive swimming.
Cantu on Maria Vittoria Corbi: "MaVi is part of a very strong Italian National Team and a very successful 2019 Italian class. She is a fighter on the course which fits perfectly with the style of players we are looking for. Her long game accuracy and finesse around the greens will make her a successful collegiate player. MaVi has a lot of international playing experience and comes to Maryland having won numerous big-time events. We are excited for her to join our Terp family!
