
Jordan, Meharg, Williams Set for MSAHOF Honors

BALTIMORE, Md. – Three members of the Maryland Athletics family will be inducted into the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame Thursday. Football's Lamont Jordan, field hockey's Missy Meharg and Buck Williams of the men's basketball team are part of the 59th class of inductees.
Jordan is first all-time in Maryland history in career rushing yards (4,147), single-season rushing yards (1,632 in 1999), single game rushing yards (306 vs. Virginia, 1999), single-season rushing touchdowns (16 in 1999) and career rushing attempts (807). He totaled 18 career 100-yard rushing games, the most in school history.
A Maryland native, Jordan also scored 17 touchdowns in 1999, the most in a single season in Maryland history. He earned First Team All-ACC honors and was named a Second Team All-American in 1999. Jordan was drafted by the New York Jets in 2001.
Maryland field hockey head coach Missy Meharg will be honored with the John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievement Award and she is the first field hockey honoree in the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame. As head coach of the Terrapins for 31 years, Meharg has led the program to seven NCAA titles, 25 conference titles, 17 Final Fours and a record of 562-137-9 (.800).
Meharg has coached 51 All-Americans, five Honda Sports Award recipients and six Olympians.
Buck Williams played at Maryland from 1978-81 and helped lead the Terrapins to an ACC title and two NCAA Tournament Second Round appearances. He earned ACC Rookie of the Year honors in 1979.
Williams scored 1,153 career points, posted 928 career rebounds and is the Terrapins' all-time career leader in field goal percentage at 61.5 percent.
The group, which will be inducted Thursday at Martin's West, also includes a lacrosse player (Mark Greenberg), a sailor (Terry Hutchinson), a horse trainer (Bill Boniface).
