Director of Athletic Training/Head Football Athletic Trainer

The Director of Athletic Training will work under the medical supervision of the head team physician and is responsible for the day-to-day organization, administration, and clinical application of comprehensive health care services for over 500 student-athletes. The Director will also serve as the Head Athletic Trainer for Football. Key components of the position include effective unit leadership, injury prevention, healthcare delivery, risk management, coordinating drug testing operations, insuring compliance with all Federal, State, University, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations related to privacy, OSHA, and healthcare, and effective educational programming for all Sports Medicine staff to insure continuing education and currency with Athletic Training best practices. Responsible for assisting with sports medicine/athletic training operations for all sport teams, to include the prevention, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of student-athletes; pre-participation physicals; inventory management of supplies, medications, and equipment; maintaining medical records; completing required insurance claims; daily interaction and communication with coaching staff, strength and conditioning and sports performance personnel, physicians, resident athletic trainers, and University and athletic administration; attending team practices and events; supervising athletic training personnel and their performance; and performing other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and/or the Head Team Physician.

Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training, or related field/concentration required. Current certification as a Board of Certification (BOC) Certified Athletic Trainer; CPR/AED certification from an accredited organization; currently possess and/or eligible for State of Maryland Athletic Training License; at least 7 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer at the NCAA Division I or professional sports level; Four (4) years of direct management of recruitment, training, and professional development of staff, documented supervisory experience of other athletic trainers and students; and documented management of budgets are all required. Must possess strong communication, organizational, administrative, and teamwork skills and have the ability to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings, weekends and holidays as well as travel.

Master's degree in related field preferred. Experience working within a NCAA Division I FBS or NFL Football; NHL or NCAA Ice Hockey; or NCAA Lacrosse environment is preferred. Extensive knowledge of sports medicine operations and trends, risk management, policy and procedure development, and drug testing administration; and knowledge of insurance operations; experience in manual therapy techniques and injury prevention programs preferred.
