COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland junior center back Donovan Pines was named a second-team United Soccer Coaches All-American, the organization announced Thursday night.
Pines, who has started 21 matches in the center of the Terps back line, has been sensational for a Maryland defense that has given up just 16 goals this season, and none in their current NCAA Tournament run. Pines has scored two goals, including in Maryland 2-0 College Cup semifinal victory against No. 2 Indiana, and added two assists this season.
The Clarksville, Md., native has been sensational against some of the best attacking players in the country. Forwards Andre Shinyashiki of Denver and JJ Williams of Kentucky, both MAC Hermann Trophy finalists, were unable to notch a point matched up with Pines.
Maryland returns to action Sunday night in the College Cup National Championship game against Akron. Kickoff from Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara is set for 8 p.m. ET, and fans can watch live on ESPNU.
