COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The 2018 Maryland volleyball team got their first look at the brand new team suite and locker room in the XFINITY Center Pavilion on Monday.
A ribbon cutting ceremony preceded the reveal of the locker room with Director of Athletics Damon Evans and Head Coach Adam Hughes providing some remarks to the student-athletes and staff.
"When we were planning this out, we wanted to make sure we provided you guys with a top-notch facility," Evans said to the team. "I've always said that what we do is about the young women behind us as well as all of our student-athletes. They are the backbone of our athletic department. This is just a little something that we feel like we can do to show our gratitude for all the hard work and blood, sweat and tears that you put in to represent our institution."
"Thank you to everyone who had a part in this," said Hughes to the team and staff on hand. "I know our team is really excited to see their new home, thank you to everyone for being here."
Once inside the new space, the 2018 team cheered and gasped at their new home before exploring the team suite and locker room. The players sat on their new bean bag chairs, looked at their respective lockers and examined the kitchen.
"This is unbelievable," said sophomore outside hitter Erika Pritchard. "We're thankful for all the support. I know there was a lot of hard work that was put into this. I'm just extremely grateful. I'll definitely be spending a lot of time here."
Attached to the team's home arena, the Maryland volleyball team suite includes an entry way, a team lounge and a locker room area, which are equipped with the latest technology to help the student-athletes perform at a high level both on the court and in the classroom.
The Maryland volleyball team will begin fall practice in early August before beginning their 2018 slate on Friday, August 24th at Wake Forest.
